An axle shaft is one of the most important components of your vehicle's drivetrain. Its job is to transfer power from the differential to the wheels, allowing your vehicle to move. Whether you drive a rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive vehicle, your axle shafts are designed to handle the engine's torque while supporting the demands of acceleration, towing, off-road driving, and everyday use.
A ring and pinion installation kit contains all the essential components needed to properly install and set up new differential gears. Using high-quality replacement parts during installation helps ensure proper gear alignment, smooth operation, and long service life.
A posi carrier (also called a limited-slip differential carrier, Positraction, or LSD) is designed to send power to both drive wheels when one tire starts to lose traction. Unlike an open differential, which sends most of the power to the wheel with the least resistance, a posi carrier helps keep both wheels driving the vehicle.
A ring and pinion is the heart of your vehicle's differential. It's a matched set of gears that transfers power from the driveshaft to the axle shafts while changing the direction of power flow by 90 degrees.
Standard (Open) Carrier
A standard carrier (also called an open differential carrier) is the main housing inside a differential that holds the spider gears and side gears. Its job is to transfer power from the ring gear to the axle shafts while allowing the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds.
